Last Day of Third Grade!

We've enjoyed our time with our students this year.  We're proud of the progress each student has made and are grateful for the memories we've created together.  One of my favorite things about third grade is how our students enter our classrooms as little kids and exit as little people.  We hope everyone has a safe, fun, and refreshing summer break.  See you in August!

Disaster Supply Kit

Image of an Example Disaster Supply Kit
June 1 marked the official start of hurricane season.  This week in Health, we are learning about fire, home, and disaster safety.  Does your family have a basic disaster supply kit?  Our national government recommends:
  • Water, one gallon of water per person per day for at least three days, for drinking and sanitation
  • Food, at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food
  • Battery-powered or hand crank radio and a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert and extra batteries for both
  • Flashlight and extra batteries
  • First aid kit
  • Whistle to signal for help
  • Dust mask to help filter contaminated air and plastic sheeting and duct tape to shelter-in-place
  • Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties for personal sanitation
  • Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities
  • Manual can opener for food
  • Local maps
  • Cell phone with chargers, inverter or solar charger
FEMA's website also has a good list of items for additional emergency supplies and first aid.

Our students love to help!  Have them assist you in making a list, gathering, or shopping for these items.  The best way for them to learn how to be safe is by your example.  :-)
